2013 BWCA – Little Indian Sioux South, Bootleg Lake

2013 BWCA - Little Indian Sioux South, Bootleg Lake

In the Fall of 2013 we went on a wonderful Boundary Waters trip. Myself and two tripping buddies went in at Little Indian Sioux South and spent a week by ourselves on Bootleg Lake before heading back the way we came. We had planned on a vigorous trip covering lots of ground and water, but Bootleg was so ideal this particular trip that we decided to stay, until/unless more people moved into the lake. No one came, so we stayed for 7 nights on Bootleg, enjoying pleasant weather and a multitude of frogs, sunsets, and Aurora Borealis.

This island was off our site, and every morning it collected mist from the previous night.

This caterpillar had collected quite a bit of dew on himself over night, he looked great in the morning glow.

We saw the northern lights a few times this trip. This was from the night they came in most clear.

Aurora Borealis serves as a fine backdrop for experiments with glow-sticks and long exposures.

Big Moose Lake – BWCA Spring 2017

Big Moose Lake - BWCA Spring 2017

In June 2017 we went on a shorter-than-usual BWCA trip, on account of an incoming little one back home. Myself, Lucille, my brother-in-law, and two friends went to Big Moose Lake by way of Moose River South on a 4 night trip. We saw lots of heavy rain, leaving us to quite a few games of Magic the Gathering. On the upside, we got to see many incredible rainbows, including a full end-to-end double rainbow out over the water. I didn't take the camera out too often on account of the incessant rain Here are some photos from the trip:

The long windy dirt road from Ely to the entry point.

Lucille observing the fish holding area.

Now where the hell are we? What's with all the rain?

There was a pot of gold behind that rock. We paddled out to claim it and split the loot 5 ways.
